Stridy Privacy Policy

Last updated: 25 February 2026

1. Who We Are

Stridy is an environmental cleanup app that helps people track and measure their impact when picking up litter. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights over your data.

  • Company: STRIDY LIMITED
  • Address: 8 Cross Street, Manulife Tower, #20-01, Singapore 048424
  • Contact: hello@stridy.com
  • Website: stridy.com
  • App: Stridy (available on iOS and Android)
  • Online Shop: stridy.com/shop
  • Impact Dashboard: stridy.com/community-impact-dashboard (also accessible at data.stridy.com)

Stridy is used by people around the world. This policy covers the Stridy mobile app, the Stridy website (stridy.com) including the online shop, and the Stridy Impact Dashboard, regardless of where you are located.

2. What Data We Collect

Account Information

When you create a Stridy account, we collect:

  • Username — a display name you choose, shown in the app and on the public Impact Dashboard. We strongly recommend that you do not use your real name as your username. Choose a nickname or alias instead, as your username is publicly visible (see Section 4). Stridy is not responsible for any consequences if you choose to use your real name.
  • Email address — used for account login and password resets
  • Password — stored securely using encryption (we never store or see your actual password)
  • Profile image — optional, displayed on your profile and in activity feeds

Social Login Data

If you sign up using Google, Facebook, or Apple:

  • We receive your name and a unique account ID from the provider. Your name from the social login provider may be used as your initial username — you can change this in your profile settings.
  • If you sign up via Facebook, we may fetch your profile photo
  • We do not store your social media password or maintain ongoing access to your social accounts

GPS and Location Data

When you start a stride (cleanup walk), the app records:

  • Precise GPS coordinates throughout your walk — this is detailed location tracking that records your position approximately every minute
  • Start and end coordinates of each pickup event within your stride
  • Your general location (country, state, city) — determined automatically from your GPS coordinates

Location tracking only happens while you are actively doing a stride. The app does not track your location in the background or when you are not using it.

Activity Data

During and after strides, we collect:

  • How long your stride lasted and the distance you walked
  • The types and quantities of litter you collected
  • The weight of litter collected
  • Photos you take during your stride (optional)
  • Any text descriptions you add
  • Points earned
  • Which team you were striding with (if any)

Device Data

  • Push notification ID — so we can send you notifications about the app
  • Device authentication token — to keep you logged in on your device

Newsletter Subscription

After signing up, you may choose to subscribe to the Stridy newsletter (“Stridy Seconds”). This is optional and separate from creating your account.

Stridy Website (stridy.com)

When you visit the Stridy website at stridy.com, we may collect:

  • Analytics data — we use Google Tag Manager to understand how visitors use our website. This may include information such as pages visited, time spent on the site, referring website, and general location (country/city level). This data is collected anonymously and is not linked to your Stridy app account.
  • Essential website data — standard web server logs and cookies necessary to operate the website (see Section 10).

The Stridy website is hosted by Hostinger and is separate from the Stridy app infrastructure.

Online Shop (stridy.com/shop)

If you make a purchase through the Stridy online shop, we collect:

  • Your name and shipping address — to deliver your order
  • Email address — to send order confirmations and shipping updates
  • Payment information — when you pay by credit or debit card (e.g., Visa, Mastercard), your card details are processed securely by Stripe, our payment provider. We do not see or store your full card number on our servers — Stripe handles this directly.

3. How We Use Your Data

Data What we use it for
Username and email Create and manage your account, let you log in, send password resets
GPS coordinates Track your cleanup route, calculate the distance you walked, show your stride on the dashboard map

Photos Display alongside your stride record in the app and on the dashboard
Push notification ID Send you notifications about app updates, events, and activity
Newsletter subscription Send you periodic emails about Stridy news and events
Website analytics Understand how visitors use stridy.com so we can improve the website
Shop purchase data (name, address, email) Process and deliver your order, send order confirmations and shipping updates

We do not sell your data to anyone. We do not use your data for advertising.

Research and Studies

Anonymised stride data may be shared with universities, researchers, or organisations for studies related to civic engagement, volunteering, community behaviour, or environmental impact.

When sharing data for research purposes:

  • Usernames are removed or anonymised — researchers will never receive your username or any information that could identify you
  • Email addresses are never shared — your email is never included in any research data
  • GPS locations and litter data may be shared — stride routes, pickup locations, litter types, and quantities may be used to study patterns in litter distribution, community cleanup behaviour, and environmental trends

This data is only shared in anonymised, aggregated form and is used strictly for research, education, or public interest purposes.

Legal Basis for Processing Your Data

If you are located in the European Union or United Kingdom, data protection law (GDPR) requires us to have a legal basis for processing your personal data. The table below explains the legal basis we rely on for each type of processing:

Data / Processing Legal Basis Explanation
Account data (username, email, password) Contractual necessity We need this to create and manage your account — without it, we cannot provide the service
GPS and location tracking during strides Contractual necessity Location tracking is a core feature of Stridy — it is how we track your cleanup route and calculate distance
Activity data (items, weight, photos, points) Contractual necessity Recording your cleanup activity is the primary purpose of the app
Push notifications Consent You can enable or disable notifications on your device at any time
Newsletter (Stridy Seconds) Consent You actively opt in during or after signup, and can unsubscribe at any time
Public display on Impact Dashboard Legitimate interest Showing collective cleanup impact is central to Stridy’s mission of encouraging environmental action. You are informed of this before using the service
Website analytics (Google Tag Manager) Legitimate interest We use anonymised analytics to understand how visitors use our website so we can improve it
Research and studies (anonymised data) Legitimate interest Anonymised data supports environmental research and public interest. Your username and email are never included
Error reporting (Sentry) Legitimate interest Detecting and fixing bugs keeps the app working properly for all users

If we rely on legitimate interest, you have the right to object (see Section 8).

4. What Data is Publicly Visible

The Stridy Impact Dashboard shows cleanup activity on an interactive map. It is available at stridy.com/community-impact-dashboard (embedded within the Stridy website) and also at data.stridy.com. Both display the same data and are publicly accessible — anyone can view them without logging in.

The following data is visible on the public dashboard:

  • Your username — shown on map markers and on the leaderboard. This is why we recommend choosing a nickname or alias rather than your real name.
  • Stride locations — the GPS coordinates of where you did each cleanup, shown as points on the map
  • Activity stats — number of items collected, distance walked, duration, and points earned per stride
  • Leaderboard ranking — your username and performance stats compared to other users

This data is also accessible through our public API (application programming interface), which is how the dashboard website loads the data.

By using Stridy, you understand and agree that your username and stride activity data will be visible to the public on the Stridy Impact Dashboard.
